What’s in the Mail: Berekyah

letter, mail, mailbox, Haiti, Berekyah, What's in the mail

Letter’s in the mail! I received a letter and a Haiti Christmas ornament from Haiti Outreach Ministries. The letter and ornament is not directly from Berekyah because of the protests and violence in Haiti this year.

The schools have not been in session in much of Haiti to protect the children. The ornament is beautiful, and we hung it on our Christmas tree. However, I love receiving the handmade items from my Berekyah, and it is sad that we could not get a letter from him this Christmas.

My prayer for Haiti in 2020 is that they will have peace. I pray that the children will be able to go back to school so that they can learn and receive more food, health check ups, and everything else that Haiti Outreach Ministries does for them. I pray that God will bless Berekyah’s family and help them through the difficult times in Haiti. I also pray that one day I will be able to go on a mission trip to Haiti and meet them.

What do you normally take for granted? Do you think often about the children around the world who do not have access to the resources that you do? If you do sponsor a child, have they told you about their living conditions? Does knowing about your sponsored child’s life make you grateful for what you do have?

What’s In the Mail: Burusi

Letter’s in the mail! I received a letter from Burusi, which is dated September 11, 2019. He received the gifts and was able to buy items like maize flour, books, pencils, and a bag. I am happy that he received the gift I sent because I know that Kenya is suffering from a drought and flood cycle from the Indian Ocean. You can read up on the weather cycle called the Indian Ocean Dipole. I also received a new picture of Burusi.

Burusi 2019

He writes that he works in farming with his family, and that they are “struggling to plant different crops like maize, beans, and cowpeas.” I did a search for cowpeas, and I found out that they are like black-eyed peas. I am praying that his family has success with their crops, especially with the harsh weather patterns.

Burusi Letter

He plans to celebrate Christmas with a lot of joy with his family. He then drew a picture on the back of the letter. I am happy to hear from him.

Burusi letter

This letter reminds me how difficult it is to grow crops when the weather does not cooperate. Farming is important for the world, and to all the farmers out there, thank you for your hard work! Because of you, we can get our groceries at the store… or at a local farm market.

Sponsor a Child

Please sponsor a child through Compassion International. Here in the United States, we are so blessed that we can probably just turn on a light when it gets dark or get our water from the kitchen sink. We do not have to worry about whether our water is clean enough to drink; in most cases, we take for granted that we have clean water right where we are. Sponsoring a child through Compassion International is $38 per month. By sponsoring a child through Compassion International, you can impact a child and their family by giving them access to an education, food, clothing, shelter, medical treatment, abuse intervention, and most importantly the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Give a Gift of Hope

Christmas is a week away! Are you scrambling to find gifts for all your nieces and nephews? Are you looking for just the right gift for that special family member? I happen to be done Christmas shopping for this year… I think. Haha!

I do know a gift that will not be thrown aside after a day or two, that will not clutter up the home, but will make a lasting legacy in the years to come. What gift would do that? Well, with just $25, you can send a gift to a needy child around the world through Compassion International. It may be the first gift that child has ever received. If only you could see the spark of joy that it could bring in the eyes of a child living in poverty.

The best part about sending a gift through Compassion International to children in poverty is that it also gives that child the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That gift can plant a seed of hope in the lives of their family members too!

Maybe this year, you and your family can start a new tradition. Instead of only giving and receiving gifts from people you know, you can give a gift to someone who might not ever be able to repay you. You can bless a child just like my Burusi in Kenya.

Consider giving a gift of $25 through Compassion International or even sponsoring a child through Compassion International. You can leave a lasting legacy of sharing the Gospel and blessing others through child sponsorship for $38 per month. You can change a child’s life by helping them get hope through education, food, health care, and hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas! May God be glorified in your life, and may you leave a legacy of love.

Book Review: The -Silent- Noisy Night by Jill Roman Lord

Was the night that Christ was born a silent night like the song says? Or was there noise of great jubilation at the coming of our Lord and Savior? Jill Roman Lord’s new children’s book explores just that!

The –Silent- Noisy Night is a beautifully illustrated board book for families to share during Advent and Christmas. Because of the sturdiness of board books, readers can share this book with their babies and toddlers as well as their older children. Not only does this book offer a new look at the night Jesus was born (using theology), it also points to what our response should be in knowing that Christ came (our doxology and orthography). The book directs the reader to not only to sing God’s praises for Christ but also to tell others of what a great Gift that Jesus Christ is for the world.

The book has every sound in the story in bold, so you can practice the sound out loud while reading to children. For example, cows go “MOOO!” This is a nice feature of the book that can help build literacy skills too.

A couple of the animals included in the story make me want to look up if they’re located in the Palestine region, but I’m not that concerned about it. It might make a good children’s research paper if they were interested in what animals live in that habitat.

I received this book through BH Bloggers for an honest review, and I rate this cute children’s Christmas book five stars out of five. I’m so thankful for more books that point children and families to Christ! I’m excited about sharing this one with the children of my family.
