Unless you are living under a rock, you know that Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and a few others passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash. Death comes for us all, and God sovereignly chooses our time of death. Emotions have been running high for a lot of people across the world this week, and the event reminds us that we are mortal, not made to last in this condition forever.
For those of us who are believers in Christ, we have the full assurance of hope that we can one day go live with Jesus forever. We are blessed beyond all comparison with that hope. For those who still need to hear the Gospel and believe in Christ, the Gospel is this:
For God so loved the world in this way, that He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins on the cross. We are all sinners, by nature, and because we cannot save ourselves from God’s wrath for those sins, we need a Savior. God sent Jesus to be the substitutionary atonement for our sin. For those who believe in Christ as their Lord, Master, and Savior and trust in His finished work on the cross, they will live eternally with Christ in heaven on the last day. Christ will return one day, when He does, there will no longer be time to decide to live for Him. Therefore, now is your chance and the time to trust and obey Christ.
The death of Kobe Bryant has inspired me a renewed and increased desire to share the Gospel with as many people as possible. It has also reminded me to consider the number of my days; I am 31 years old. The average lifespan is about 80 years or 90 years, if they are in good health. With these last 50 or so years, I hope to share the Gospel with more people and spend my life glorifying Christ.
When thinking forward to the day I die and there is a funeral for me, I hope they sing “All the Way My Savior Leads Me”; “Behold Our God” by Sovereign Grace Music; and “All I Have is Christ” by Sovereign Grace Music.
As the Psalmist writes in Psalm 90:
12 So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90)
Let us remember that our days are few and that we need Christ for our salvation.
