To get inspiration and wisdom, we can look back and learn from the past. Therefore, I have planned a series of articles where we will look back at historical people who have played a part in church history. I plan to share resources for learning more about these historical figures as well as an encouraging quote and what we can model after them.
Our fifth historical person to look at and learn from in this series is James Hudson Taylor, a Baptist missionary from Britain to China (according to Wikipedia). For more information, see these resources:

“Depend on it. God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.”

“The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed.”
James Hudson Taylor
Why should we learn from J. Hudson Taylor’s life? He was a great example of a man devoted to sharing the Gospel in China. He wanted all of China to know who Christ is. We need the same evangelistic fervor that J. Hudson Taylor had, following Christ’s command to share the Gospel around the world.
“All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on God being with them.”
J. Hudson Taylor
May we defy the spirit of the age and share the Gospel boldly so that everyone may know who Jesus is. We do not have to be “super Christians” to go share the Gospel; we just have to be obedient to Christ.
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
Mark 16:15 ESV
Jesus gave us (the Church) the mission to share the Gospel to everyone, everywhere, and together as the Church, we will accomplish the mission. As you learn and reflect on the life of J. Hudson Taylor, consider if the fear of man is holding you back from sharing the Gospel or any other fears you might have. Start a conversation with a friend or family member about Jesus. Consider how you can encourage others to share the Gospel too.
